2014 Tempranillo

2014 Tempranillo
2014 Tempranillo
Tasting notes

A beautiful example of Rocks District characteristics, leading with aromas of cured meat, mushrooms, soy sauce and clean earth, leading into plush fruit and a soft, rich-textured body. As this wine breaths it reveals a core of pure, precise fruit the grows in proportion to the meaty and earthy elements for a delicious showcase of the ripeness and savory intrigue that make the Rocks District unique.

Production notes

All Watermill wines are hand picked late in seasons for maximum ripeness. They are then gently pressed in small volumes and undergo inoculated fermentation in 1 to 1.5 ton small lot fermenters. The wine sits on the skins for more than two weeks where it undergoes additional maceration through punch downs and pump overs for color and tannin integration before being transferred to barrel. All reds age for between 12 and 16 months in a combination of new and neutral medium toast French and American oak before bottling.

Other notes

A savory varietal in a region known for its savory wines, Tempranillo in the Rocks District is a match made in vinicultural heaven. While Syrah has attracted the lion’s share of attention in our new AVA, we expect Tempranillo (along with Cabernet Franc) to carve out a strong position as supporting players as the region develops.
