Vineyard Notes

The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater is renowned for its distinctive cobblestone soils and unique microclimate, which contribute to the exceptional quality of the grapes. This specific vineyard's rocky terrain provides excellent drainage and optimal sun exposure, allowing the grapes to develop rich and complex flavors. The terroir is ideal for Syrah, imparting notable aromatics and intense fruit character.

Harvest and Production

The 2020 Syrah from the Rocks District is crafted with 99% Syrah and 1% Viognier. This wine underwent a 50% whole cluster fermentation in stainless steel, enhancing its structure and complexity. It was then aged for 18 months in 75% new French oak barrels, which imparted additional layers of flavor and a refined texture.

Terroir

The unique terroir of the Rocks District significantly influences the characteristics of this Syrah. The cobblestone soils and specific climatic conditions contribute to the wine's exotic richness and mouthfeel. The terroir imparts savory spice, anise, blueberry, and lavender notes, creating a distinctive and memorable profile. The influence of the Rocks District terroir is evident in every sip, with lingering notes of toast and brioche.
