2020 McClellan Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Vineyard and Terroir
McClellan Vineyard, located where the Walla Walla Valley floor meets the rolling Palouse Hills, spans 16 acres of shallow silt loam soils at low elevation. This site is ideal for crafting rich, fruit-forward Bordeaux varieties. The Umapine silt loam soils and proximity to the Valley’s oldest Cabernet plantings at Windrow Vineyard, McClellan Vineyard, consistently produce grapes with vibrant fruit character and complexity.
Production
The 2022 McClellan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a limited, small-batch release of only 75 cases. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve bright fruit expression, the wine was aged 22 months in 75% new French oak barrels from premium coopers, adding depth and a subtle touch of vanilla. Grapes from this block are trained on a Geneva Double Curtain (GDC) trellis system, contributing to the wine’s generous mouthfeel and plush tannin structure.
Tasting Notes
This expressive Cabernet Sauvignon bursts with layers of blueberry, black cherry, and subtle vanilla. The palate is rich and mouth-coating, supported by soft, dusty tannins and balanced acidity. New French oak aging lends delicate notes of vanilla and spice without overwhelming the vibrant fruit. Enjoy now for its youthful energy or cellar for added complexity—a versatile Cabernet pairs beautifully with grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses.
