Vineyard Notes
McClellan Vineyard located where the valley floor meets the rolling Palouse hills in the southeastern corner of the Walla Walla Valley. McClellan Vineyard spans 16 acres. This site features shallow silt loam soils and low elevation, creating ideal conditions for fruit-forward, complex Bordeaux varietals. The vineyard is known for producing grapes that yield unmatched wines with rich and vibrant flavors.
Harvest and Production
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from McClellan Vineyard is a small-batch production, with only 75 cases made. The wine was aged in a combination of 75% new French oak barrels from various premium coopers, enhancing its complexity and depth. The fermentation process took place in stainless steel, with the use of the Geneva Double Curtain (GDC) trellis system contributing to the wine’s generous mouthfeel. This specific block sits adjacent to the Valley's oldest Cabernet plantings at Windrow Vineyard and benefits from the Umapine silt loam soil, which imparts distinct characteristics.
Terroir
The unique terroir of McClellan Vineyard, with its shallow silt loam soils and low elevation, significantly influences the characteristics of this Cabernet Sauvignon. The site’s terroir is ideal for developing rich fruit flavors and complex profiles. The vineyard’s specific conditions contribute to the wine’s notes of blueberry fruit, soft dusty tannins, and a vibrant, fruit-forward profile.
