2020 Estate Malbec
Vineyard Notes:
McClellan Vineyard, located at the intersection of the valley floor and the rolling Palouse hills in the southeastern corner of the Walla Walla Valley, spans 16 acres. The terroir features shallow silt loam soils and low elevation, ideal for producing fruit-forward and complex Bordeaux varietals.
Harvest and Production Notes:
The 2020 Estate Malbec was harvested from the 16-acre McClellan Vineyard. With a total production of 90 cases, the wine was aged in 25% Hungarian oak, enhancing its complexity.
Tasting Notes:
This multi-layered Malbec boasts notes of black cherry, blueberry pie, and other wild berries, offering a rich and complex flavor profile.
Production notes
All Watermill wines are hand-picked late in seasons for maximum ripeness. They are then gently pressed in small volumes and undergo inoculated fermentation in 1 to 1.5 ton small lot fermenters. The wine sits on the skins for more than two weeks where it undergoes additional maceration through punch downs and pump overs for color and tannin integration before being transferred to barrel. All reds age for between 12 and 16 months in a combination of new and neutral medium toast French, American, and Hungarian oak before bottling.
